The Best Window Cleaning Methods

By Adriana Noton

Windows form part of the house but they tend to be ignored most times when it comes to keeping the home clean. Windows are not given as much attention as other household items, probably because they are hidden behind the curtains. Window cleaning is important and must be treated as such.

There are different types of windows and each type requires special treatment. Home owners should endeavor to know the exact type of window in their homes. Giving a particular type of window the treatment meant for another will only make it loose its shine.

Vinyl windows are very delicate. They can easily be scratched so utmost care should be taken when washing them. A soft cloth and some vinegar will help to keep them clean. Some detergent could also be used where vinegar is not available. Using a hard cloth or sponge will leave scratches on vinyl windows hence the need for soft cloth.

Glass windows are tougher in texture that vinyl. These types are the most commonly used of all windows. They are more tolerant to cleaning agents and will not be harmed by components like ammonia or alcohol. They are more resistant to stains and scratches. Even though they are not as delicate as vinyl, they still require that they be handled with utmost care.

Tinted windows are as commonly used as glass windows. The important thing about them is their color and this needs to be maintained as much as possible. Ammonia and harsh washing liquids are not good for them as they will affect their shade. Mild soaps and soft towels are to be used in keeping them clean.

Liquids for washing windows could easily be bought in the market. Home based products could also be prepared for the same purpose. An example is to mix vinegar and water of equal proportions together. Another example is to use club soda as a washing agent. Home based products are very effective at keeping windows sparkling clean.

While making home remedies for washing windows, mixing acid and alkaline components together should be avoided. This will create a weak and useless solution. A practical example of this is mixing vinegar with ammonia as part of the ingredients used to make a product.

Washing should be done after removing excess dust and dirt from the window surface using a cloth. When this is not done, the water for washing will become muddy. Also, cloudy days and early or late parts of the day are best when intending to clean. Doing so on hot sunny days will make the washing liquid dry up on time. The end result of this is that dirt stains will end up appearing on the windows when they are dried.

After washing and waiting for the windows to get dried, a dry cloth should be used to clean the surface to make the glass regain its sparkle. Apart from dry cloth, old newspapers or board cleaners could be used. For those who are too busy to clean their home or office windows by themselves, window cleaning firms should be contacted to do so for a fee.
